Abstract: David will talk about the constant challenges faced by archivists and records managers in keeping up with and adapting to new and emergent technologies, how we can keep focused through the hype, and some of the steps already being taken by the UK Government to protect and preserve the official record. 

Bio: David Canning is the Head of Knowledge & Information Management in the UK Cabinet Office, and tutors at the University of Dundee on the Principles and Practice of Records Management. His team was the first to apply algorithmic technology to the systematic review of digital records and to claim to have conquered the so-called ‘Digital Heap’ problem. In 2024, he was awarded MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to innovation in knowledge & information management.
