The GLOW initiative, led by Professor Lise Jaillant (Loughborough University) and building on the AHRC-funded LUSTRE project, held a one-day workshop on 22 July 2025 at the Mercure Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester.

Through a programme of talks, a plenary discussion, and Q&A, the workshop explored emerging trends, practical challenges, and promising approaches for responsible uses of AI in government records and the wider GLAM sector. The workshop examined current directions in the responsible use of AI, with a focus on privacy, security, access, user needs, and institutional trust. The event aimed to spark dialogue, foster collaboration, and encourage practical next steps among government professionals, GLAM practitioners, and academics.

Our two keynote speakers were Professor Victoria Lemieux (University of British Columbia, Canada) and David Canning MBE (Cabinet Office, UK).

Invited speakers included Dr James Lappin (Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, UK), Professor Georgina Cosma (Loughborough University, UK), Dr Adam Nix (University of Birmingham, UK), Elizabeth Hatfield and Andrew Bonnie (Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford, UK), Dr Katherine McDonough (Lancaster University, UK) and Mahin Ali (SVGC, UK).
